“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35)
Today is the first day of the rest of your life! How we treat those we interact with matters to God and should be important for us to consider in our growth process.
The ways we respond are birthed from our inner attitudes and these are the result of who we are becoming in our momentary faith journey as spiritual women walking on this earth.
Promoting ways of being that exemplify the Christ Spirit in us, such as, sensitively caring, compassionately listening and lovingly sharing, His love, spreads peaceful ways of relating.
We can Be the change needed in our world!
Change happens one step at a time, one day at a time, one person at a time, but it always begins with us, as an individual.
We can be the change needed in our world today by allowing the Spirit to inhabit our outward service towards others. Serving beyond ourselves helps us mature into spiritual beings. By choosing the Christ way of responding to those we interact with and how we respond, add value and worth to our relationships.
Realizing how great the needs are in this world, it becomes necessary to step back from our own flesh tendencies to react, and learn to enter into the abundant Grace God provides in our circumstances in responding rightly.
Step into God’s grace in choosing to respond in the Christ-like manner!
I am not sure about you, but I am not perfect in this process. There are times I fail to respond the right way as a follower of Christ. I slip up, or rather, tones and words spill out in ways that are not conducive to open conversation.
When I react from my own flesh tendencies, I am shutting down and closing opportunities I may have had to show the genuine, sincere love of the Spirit.
Each failing on my part, is a new moment and another chance to practice the art of responding graciously in the Spirit-directed way of being.
I have come to understand it is in the midst of my weaknesses, where I am stretched in this art of surrendering to God’s Spirit, who does this miraculous and necessary work, in conforming me nearer to His character in my inner attitudes.
God created us with free will to choose His ways and also to choose how we respond to others.
It is all a choice on my part to abide in the Grace provided by God, in modeling Christ, in order to build meaningful connections, instilling value in those I am communicating with, in responsively being His love.
I am thankful and encouraged that God always responds to me in His endearing love and He is the faithful One, remaining steadfast in His patience, in continuing to guide me in moving forward in this faith journey in changing.
In considering the following questions, it might be a good practice to journal your reflections.
1. What kind of influence do you desire to make in your relationships?
2. What steps can you take to work towards making these changes?
3. What are some of the ways you can increase how you influence others towards making a difference in this world?
Let us know some of your responses in the ‘Penny for your thoughts’ section at the end of this post as we can all learn from one another and this is how we grow together as a women of God.
This is part 1 of a series I will be doing on how we learn to stop reacting and begin to clothe our inner attitudes in God’s grace in order to respond according to His ways.
Let us pray:
Holy Spirit you are the only guidance in our lives who can help us in becoming nearer to this Christ-like love. I ask you today, to be present in me in such a way, that others will become aware of your presence in my manners, in my words and in my responses.
Help me to become more gentle, more tender, and more reflective and more considerate when I am with another. Come and inhabit the deep inner core of whom you are transforming me to become, an authentic woman who shows forth your love.
Cause me to change towards all godliness in my endeavors, glowing with Your ever-abiding sustaining life Spirit in me, so my breath is as a fragrance of beauty, touching souls, sparking and igniting hearts through your love.
Draw me nearer to you as my source, who is the divine nature of Christ who dwells in the tattered frame of my humanity.
