Summer hydrating and gaining health benefits!

It is Monday!  Good morning to you all!  Hope you were able to relax a bit over the weekend, or catch up on some sleep. It was another beautiful one here in upstate NY!

Have you ever tried  making up a batch of brewed tea?   Well, I did yesterday.  I am not a huge fan of all the sugary teas one could buy in the markets and I like flavored beverages to drink, especially to stay hydrated during the summer months.



I made up a fresh batch of This Organic Hawthorn tea with Hibiscus in it, added a bit of raw honey, along with dropping some sliced lemons for added nutritional benefits.

The Hawthorn plant (Crataegus monogyna) has been used in both clinical and folk medicine. The traditional doctors used the leaves, berries, and flowers to cure different types of diseases. Recent research shows that the berries have some beneficial properties. This has put them at the forefront of herbal medicine.

I am not sure about you, but I try to add natural plant sources to my diet in order to reap their many nutritional health benefits.  I am a huge proponent of prevention.  We are able to make changes in our lifestyles in order to maintain our health and wellness.

Often, this takes an intentional choosing on our part to create a plan, then following through with it.  I have found I have learned to make these changes in my own lifestyle in beginning one step at a time.  Making simple changes can make a huge difference in our mental/physical health, even if already dealing with a long-term chronic condition.

Research has shown the intimate connection between our diet and our health.  Not sure about you, but I would rather eat for my health, rather than eat towards the deterioration of my health.  The types of foods we ingest do matter and they can make the difference in how we feel, our mental attitudes, our spiritual well-being and greatly aids in helping us in decreasing our risk towards living with disease states.


1. Antioxidant Properties

According to the animal and laboratory research studies, this plant has potent compounds with antioxidant properties. You may already be aware that antioxidants assist in getting rid of free radicals. Free radicals are damaging elements that tamper with the DNA, alter cell membrane, and may cause cell death.

In general, these free radicals occur in the body naturally, although certain environmental toxins such as radiation, ultraviolet light, air pollution, and cigarette smoking make them multiply.

The growing amount of research that has been conducted show that free radicals accelerate the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems.

The hawthorn berries are used as an effective and safe treatment for the early stage of the heart disease. Heart Side Effects. Because hawthorn is so effective in treating many heart issues, it can also cause side effects if taken by those who do not need it. While it is used to treat heart palpitations, one of the side effects can be an increase in heart palpitations.

In drinking hawthorn tea on a regular basis, we can reap many benefits. However, just like many other herbal medicines, you should talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should also consult the doctor before you add the hawthorn tea into your health regimen.  

Hawthorn tea has shown adverse side effects in persons taking certain heart medications, so please check with your medical professional before consuming Any herbal products.
